Deepal S05 2026 Facelift in China Adds LiDAR and a Bigger Battery
Deepal launched the updated S05 in China on 6 Aug 2026, adding LiDAR-equipped versions, a 68.82 kWh battery and 3C fast charging. A summary of the key changes and what Thai drivers should know.

Deepal, Changan's new energy vehicle brand, has officially launched the Deepal S05 annual update in China on 6 August 2026, following pre-orders that opened in late July. This update focuses on two main areas: smarter driver assistance with a LiDAR sensor, and a higher-capacity battery option for those wanting more range. For those following the S05 in Thailand, this news gives a clearer picture of how the brand's core model is evolving.
Overview of Trims and Prices in China
The new S05 in China comes in 5 trims across two range groups: the 520 group with a 56.12 kWh LFP battery and a CLTC range of around 520 km, and the 620 group with a 68.82 kWh battery and a range of around 620 km. All batteries are supplied by CATL. Official prices range from 119,900 to 151,900 yuan, with introductory prices several thousand yuan lower.
- Rear-wheel-drive motor with up to 200 kW
- 0–100 km/h in around 6.3–6.5 seconds, depending on trim
- 3C fast charging from 30% to 80% in around 15 minutes on every trim
- Dimensions are unchanged at 4,620 mm long with a 2,880 mm wheelbase, with 492 liters of rear luggage space and a further 159-liter front trunk
LiDAR for the first time in the Deepal family
The key highlight is that the top trim in each group gets a 128-channel LiDAR sensor from Hesai, working with 26 other sensors for a total of 27, processed by two Horizon Robotics J6M chips with a combined 256 TOPS of computing power. The system supports driver assistance on expressways, in the city and while parking. Trims without LiDAR use a camera-and-radar system that still supports highway navigation assist.
Adding LiDAR to a car at this price point reflects the fierce competition in the Chinese market, where technology once reserved for luxury cars is rapidly reaching family cars.
What It Means for Drivers in Thailand
It is important to understand that the specifications and prices above are for the Chinese market. The models sold in Thailand are built at the Rayong plant, with equipment adapted to each country's regulations, tax structure and driving conditions. There has been no official announcement of when the Thai version will receive LiDAR or the 68.82 kWh battery.
Still, this news has two important implications. First, the S05 platform continues to receive development investment, a good sign for long-term parts and software support. Second, the S05 currently sold in Thailand shares the same foundations, including its body structure, long wheelbase and many standard driver-assistance features, making it a proven choice for those who want a car right away.
Should You Wait or Buy Now?
For those who drive every day, waiting for new technology with no clear timeline may mean missing out on use of the car and current promotions. Our recommendation is to decide based on how you actually drive: if you drive in the city and travel upcountry occasionally, the S05 sold in Thailand already covers all your needs. Those who place particular importance on advanced driver assistance can keep an eye on news of a Thai launch in the meantime.
