Deepal S05 BEV or REEV: Which One Suits How You Drive?

Comparing the Deepal S05 BEV and REEV on range, charging, costs and lifestyle fit, to help you choose the version that meets your needs

Deepal S05 BEV or REEV: Which One Suits How You Drive?

Deepal S05 is the brand's most popular model in Thailand and one of the few on the market available in both fully electric (BEV) and range-extended (REEV) versions on the same body. So the question the Motor Creation team hears most often is which version to choose. This article systematically summarizes the differences to help you decide based on how you actually drive.

What they have in common

Both models share a body measuring 4,620 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,600 mm high, with a 2,880 mm wheelbase — longer than many rivals in the same segment — resulting in a spacious cabin and comfortable rear seats. Both are driven by a rear-mounted electric motor, so the driving feel is quiet, smooth and instantly responsive, as you'd expect from an EV. Prices in Thailand start at 799,000 baht for the fully electric version, while the REEV version's price is adjusted from time to time, so check the latest price with the dealer.

Fully electric version (BEV)

The BEV uses a roughly 56 kWh LFP battery co-developed with CATL and a 238 PS motor with 320 Nm of torque, giving a maximum range of around 470 km (NEDC). It supports DC fast charging of up to around 152 kW, from 30% to 80% in about 15 minutes.

  • The lowest energy cost per kilometer, especially when charging at home overnight
  • Simple maintenance, with no engine oil or exhaust system
  • Ideal for those with regular access to charging who travel within a predictable radius

Range-extended version (REEV)

The REEV still always drives its wheels with an electric motor, but has a 1.5-liter petrol engine that acts as a generator to produce electricity when the battery runs low. The manufacturer states an all-electric range of around 170 km (NEDC) and a combined range of more than 1,000 km on a full tank.

  • Can run on electricity alone day to day, as long as your daily distance is within the battery range
  • Travel long distances across regions without planning charging stops; simply refuel as usual
  • Ideal for those without home charging, or who travel to areas where charging stations are still sparse

How to Choose for the Best Value

A simple rule: if you can charge at home or at work and rarely travel long distances, the BEV offers lower running costs and a more accessible starting price. But if you regularly drive long distances, such as between Ayutthaya and the North or Northeast, or can't easily install a charger yet, the REEV gives you the EV experience without range anxiety. Bear in mind that the REEV has an engine that requires additional scheduled maintenance.

The best approach is to test drive both versions on the routes you actually use. The Motor Creation team can arrange test drives and calculate monthly costs based on your driving habits. Our team is happy to advise on trims, financing packages, home charger installation and full after-sales service.
