Geely Starray EM-R Makes Its World Debut in Thailand: A Range-Extended Electric SUV

Geely chose Thailand for the world debut of the Starray EM-R range-extended electric SUV (REEV), with a 160 kW motor, a 1.5-liter engine serving as a generator and a starting price of 699,900 baht

Geely Starray EM-R Makes Its World Debut in Thailand: A Range-Extended Electric SUV

Thailand has the honor of being the world's first market to launch the Geely Starray EM-R a mid-size SUV using a Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) system, on 13 August 2026. This decision reflects Geely's view of Thailand as a strategic regional base, and adds a new option for those still concerned about charging infrastructure.

How does a REEV work?

The Starray EM-R drives its wheels using the electric motor alone at all times, while the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine acts solely as a generator to recharge the battery, never sending power to the wheels directly. This differs from plug-in hybrids such as the Starray EM-i, where the engine can help drive the car. The result is the smooth, quiet driving feel of an EV without any range anxiety.

  • 11-in-1 electric drive unit with 160 kW (218 PS) and 262 Nm of torque
  • 18.4 kWh LFP battery with up to 104.8 km of pure electric range (NEDC)
  • Pure, Hybrid and Power driving modes to suit every situation

Body and cabin

The car measures 4,740 mm long with a 2,755 mm wheelbase and a drag coefficient of 0.278, with up to 2,065 liters of luggage space with the rear seats folded. Inside are power-adjustable ventilated front seats, dual-zone air conditioning with rear vents, three digital screens running Flyme Auto and a 14-speaker sound system. It also offers 16 Level 2 driver assistance functions and is built on the GEA architecture, like the EX5 and EX2.

Launch pricing and terms

The Starray EM-R is fully imported and comes in two variants: the PRO at 729,900 baht, with a special launch price of 699,900 baht for the first 300 units, and the MAX at 799,900 baht. It comes with a 6-year or 160,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year or 180,000 km high-voltage battery warranty. The launch campaign, running 13–31 August 2026, includes special interest rates, one year of first-class insurance and 5 years of 24-hour roadside assistance.

A new choice in the Geely family

The arrival of the Starray EM-R broadens the Geely family in Thailand to serve a wider range of drivers: the EX2 for city driving, the EX5 for families ready to go fully electric, and the Starray EM-R for those who frequently travel long distances or live in areas where charging points are still sparse.
