Keeping Your EV Battery Healthy for Longer and Understanding the Warranty

Everyday tips for preserving your EV battery, from charge levels and fast-charging use to what to check in the battery warranty terms

Keeping Your EV Battery Healthy for Longer and Understanding the Warranty

The high-voltage battery is the most valuable component of an EV and a key factor in both its range and its resale value. The good news is that today's batteries are designed to last, and caring for them properly isn't complicated. This article brings together practices that help preserve your battery, along with the points to understand in your warranty terms.

The Ideal Charge Range for Everyday Use

A widely recommended approach is to keep the battery between roughly 20–80% for normal use, as this is the range where battery cells experience the least chemical stress. Letting the battery run very low, or charging to 100% and leaving the car parked for long periods, may accelerate degradation. If you're heading on a long trip, charging fully before you leave is no problem — just avoid leaving it parked at full charge for a long time. Many current models let you set a charging limit from the screen or app.

Fast Charging Is Fine, but Shouldn't Be Your Main Method

DC fast charging is convenient when traveling, but it generates more heat in the battery than AC charging at home. Using DC every day may therefore cause the battery to degrade faster than slow charging. The best approach is to rely mainly on AC charging at home and use fast charging when needed.

Heat Is the Factor to Watch in Thailand's Climate

  • Park in the shade or indoors when possible, especially during the hottest part of the day
  • Avoid several consecutive fast-charging sessions on hot days
  • If the car will be parked for a long time, leave the battery at a mid-level charge rather than full or nearly empty
  • Install software updates as recommended by the service center, as they sometimes include battery management improvements

Read the Battery Warranty Terms in Full

In the Thai market, many manufacturers warrant EV batteries for around 8 years or 160,000 km, and some brands offer even longer coverage. However, details differ by brand, so buyers should check the following points

  • Duration and mileage, and which limit applies first
  • The guaranteed minimum capacity; for example, some brands guarantee at least 70% remaining capacity throughout the warranty period
  • Requirements for scheduled servicing at an authorized service center
  • Warranty rights when ownership changes

It is also worth understanding that a slight loss of battery capacity with age is normal for all lithium batteries and does not mean the battery is faulty. Warranties therefore usually set a minimum capacity threshold to distinguish natural degradation from defects that need to be fixed.

Keeping a complete service history and having the service center check the battery's State of Health at every scheduled service will help with both warranty claims and preserving the car's future value

Motor Creation's advisors and service center will gladly explain the battery warranty terms for Deepal, Geely, Riddara and Farizon in detail, so you can decide with confidence. You can book a consultation or test drive at our showroom.
